The trial of 58-year-old Denis Pandolfino from Sliema and 63-year-old Anthony Pandolfino from Pembroke, accused of raping two underage boys, started on Tuesday. The case stretches back to 2002 when the alleged victims were 10 and 11 years old respectively.
The Pandolfino brothers allegedly carried out the acts when the boy’s mother asked the men to take care of the youngsters due to circumstances that arose in her life. Denis Pandolfino was responsible for the care of the 11-year-old boy, while the 10-year-old was placed in the care of Anthony Pandolfino. Denis Pandolfino is charged with the rape and defilement of the 11-year-old boy while Anthony Pandolfino is accused of raping and defiling the 10-year-old child.
The court ordered that the any identifying details concerning the youngsters, such as their names or the names of their parents are not to be release din order to protect their identity.
Later during the day, Counsellor Michelin Sciberras took the witness stand and told the court of the abuse the boys allegedly suffered at the hands of the Pandolfino brothers. The Counsellor produced drawings of the children dating back to therapy sessions the boys underwent following the alleged incidents. A number of records detailing various sexual acts allegedly carried out between the Pandolfino brothers and the young children were also presented in court by Michelin Sciberras.
The court was presided over by Judge Joe Galea.
More witnesses from the prosecution, led by General Attorney Anthony Barbara are expected to take the witness stand on Wednesday.
