Over Lm 5,000 (€11,652, US$14,590) were stolen in a hold-up in Birkirkara. The incident took place at around 1200CEST in A.Cuschieri Street when two armed robbers approached a man in a car. He was carrying Lm5,000 (€11,652, US$14,590) belonging to the company he works for.

The robbers ordered the 55-year-old man from Qormi to hand over the money before fleeing in a van. The thieves also managed to do away with a number of cheques according to One News.

The van was found later during the day in Sta. Venera.

Although nobody was injured in the incident, the employee required treatment for the deep shock he suffered.

Police are investigating the incident.

Duty Magistrate Antonio Mizzi appointed various experts to assist in an inquiry.

This is the third hold up to take place in a space of five days. On Saturday morning an elderly woman was held in her own residence in Luqa. In turn, on Thursday, two shopkeepers were held-up while opening a shop in Lazaro Pisani Street, Żebbuġ.
