Two illegal immigrants died after the boat they were traveling on with another 21 illegal immigrants capsized 8 nautical miles East of Delimara. Another 17 of the illegal immigrants were rescued. The Armed Forces of Malta is conducting searches for another four illegal immigrants who are missing. The group was originally made up of 23 illegal immigrants.
Helicopters and patrol boats took part in the search and rescue operation. Two of the illegal immigrants who were brought ashore alive were hospitalized.
One of the illegal immigrants is being kept at St. Luke’s Hospital for further observation.
Searches for the four missing illegal immigrants continue. The AFM was informed of the case at 0813CEST.
In turn, in a separate case, a group of 21 illegal immigrants reached Wied iz-Żurrieq aboard a boat, on Tuesday at around 0830CEST. Three of the illegal immigrants are women.
Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the approaching illegal immigrants.
Police investigations are underway.
