A 26-year-old man from Żejtun who was attempting to flee Police after being caught breaking into a shop in Sta. Venera was slightly injured, when he was hit by a bullet shot from a Policeman’s fire arm.
The incident took place after 0300CET on Tuesday when Police were informed that a robbery was taking place from the shop in Misraħ il-Barrieri. When the Police arrived on location, two robbers had already entered the shop to do away with the goods.
The robbers tried to flee the scene in car however, Police blocked their escape. The robbers tried to free their escape route by ramming their car into that of the Police, when Police opened fire on the car, slightly injuring the 26-year-old thief in the process. A 33-year-old robber from Senglea who was also in the car was not injured in the incident.
An ambulance was called on location and the youth was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital.
The 33-year-old man involved in the case is still on the run.
Duty Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima appointed various experts to assist in an inquiry.
Police investigations continue.
