Two driving examiners who admitted to accepting bribes to pass students from their driving tests earlier this year were conditionally discharged for three years on Thursday.
The two former Malta Transport Authority (ADT) employees, 33-year old Jason Buttigieg from Birkirkara and 30-year old Roderick Galea from Marsascala, were also generally interdicted, meaning that they will not be able to work any government-owned company. The men pleaded guilty to receiving money between Lm10 and Lm30 for every candidate presented for the driving test to ensure a good result.
In its sentence the court took into account that the men were willing to give the money they had collected to a charitable cause. They also admitted to their role in the crime, co-operated with the police and gave testimony of their own will.
The Court was presided over by Magistrate Miriam Hayman.
Lawyers Jason Azzopardi and Kris Busietta appeared for the accused.
