Landing flights delayed after illegal immigrants flee

Three flights which were set to land at the Malta International Airport on Tuesday evening were delayed when two of illegal immigrants took to the main runway. The illegal immigrants reportedly escaped from Safi Detention Centre.

Authorities were immediately alerted of the escape however up until Tuesday evening they were still on the run.

The flights effected by the incident were AirMalta Airbus 320 KM101 from Heathrow,Alitalia Airbus 321 AZ884 from Malpensa and First Choice Airways Airbus 320 FCA4244 from Gatwick.

The flights circled over the island Gozo for a brief while and were about to divert to Catania before being offered to land on runway 24.
