An earthquake shook a number of Maltese localities at around 0545CET on Friday. No injuries or damages have been reported as yet. The earthquake marked 4.9 on the Richter scale and occurred in the Central Mediterranean Sea. Its epicenter was located 155 km (95 miles) North West of Valletta, Malta.
The tremor lasted between two and three seconds was mostly felt in towns located in the Northwest regions of Malta. According to USGS, the eathquake was located at 36.466°N, 12.934°E.
The Civil Protection Department and the Police received numerous calls from alarmed citizens who felt the tremor, however no casualties were reported. This year another two earthquake tremors were felt in August and January.
