Car on fire; explosion in an apartment

On Thursday at around midnight, the Police were informed that a vehicle was on fire in Carmelo Schembri Street, Mosta.

The Police and members from the Civil Protection Department went on site. Preliminary investigations revealed that a Peugeot that was parked in the aforementioned street was on fire. The owner of the car managed to put out the fire himself. No one was injured in this incident.

Meanwhile, also early on Thursday morning at around 03:00CET, the Police were informed that an explosion had occurred in an apartment in St Bernadette Street, Qrendi.

Preliminary investigations on site revealed that the explosion was caused by a geyser. Although no one was injured in the incident, the owner of the apartment was taken to St Luke’s hospital. The apartment sustained structural damages while nearby houses were also damaged.

A Magisterial Inquiry was opened and the investigation continues.
