28-year-old Carmelo Borg, who is wanted by the Italian police in connection with illegal immigration and the drowning of nine Chinese nationals in Pozzallo on March 24, 2005, has been extradited from Malta and has arrived in Italy.

Corriere della Sera said that the man who was accompanied by Interpol agents during his flight was handed over to the Ragusa mobile squad and other investigators from the Stato di Roma.

In November, Borg had filed a writ of summons against the way in which a European Arrest Warrant was released in his regard but he lost his appeal.

Last March, nine illegal immigrants drowned in Italian waters after they were ordered to jump off from the boat that was carrying them.
