A Maltese-registered cargo ship was impounded and its captain questioned on Friday after a French trawler sunk off the Alderney coast located between France and the United Kingdom. The Maltese-registered vessel, Sichem Pandora is thought to have been in the area where the Kleine Familie sunk on Thursday. Five people are believed to have been on board the vessel. The search for five missing fishermen has been suspended.

Sichem Pandora, a chemical carrier, was on its way from Tunisia to the Netherlands with 15 on board, when it was escorted to Dunkirk by French Maritime Police.

BBC reported that a French naval minesweeper is continuing to look for wreckage of Kleine Familie on the sea bed.

A criminal investigation is under way, led by the French Marine Accident Investigation Office (BEAmer).
