According to an annual World Database of Happiness compiled by Rotterdam Erasmus University Prof Ruut Veenhoven, Malta is the happiest place on earth. African News Dimension (AND) reported that the study shows that 74 per cent of Maltese people said they are happy, followed by Denmark, Switzerland and Columbia with 73 per cent.

The other countries that were placed in the world’s top ten are Ghana, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Canada and Finland. The study shows that Zimbabwe, Ukraine, Moldova and Tanzania are the most unhappy countries. Less than 20 per cent of the citizens in the latter countries said they are happy.

The AND network reported that Prof Veenhoven stated that money is not the main aspect of happiness, in fact the United States is placed 16th after Guatemala and Uruguay. Moreover, the study ranked the United Kingdom and Germany at the 21st and 22nd places.
