In the first 11 months of 2005, the police seized 15 kilos of heroin drug and 6.4 kilos of cocaine. Replying to a parliamentary question posed by Nationalist Party Member of Parliament Jason Azzopardi, Justice Minister Tonio Borg stated that 1.88 kilos of cannabis grass, 5.25 kilos of cannabis resin, three cannabis plants, and 15,309 ecstasy pills were also confiscated during the same period.

The police also seized 250 ml of methadone, 26 tablets of DHC pills, two tablets of valium and four tablets of halcion.

Whilst replying to another question, Tonio Borg stated that that in 2005, 83 persons were arraigned in court with 379 cases of loitering in Msida, Gzira, Ta’ Xbiex and Marsa. He explained that of these, 69 were women (seven foreigners) and 14 men. Their age varied between 18 and 65 years.

Of the 379 cases, 27 cases were decided. The persons involved were found guilty and were given suspended sentences, fines or warning. Ten of the accused were released; four died during the proceedings and the other cases are still pending.
