Three students were accused in court of breaking and entering into Ġużeppi Despott Junior Lyceum and stealing half-yearly exam papers.

The youths, who appeared before Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera, were accused of having carried out the theft on Saturday 11 February at around midnight. They were also accused of having caused damage to the school which is government property.

The prosecution stated that the theft was premeditated as the students had already boasted to their friends that they would be selling the exam papers, before having actually managed to steal them.

The youths, whose names cannot be published by court order, are 16 years old and one is 15 years old and come from Fgura, Bormla and Zabbar respectively. They were released on provisional bail against a personal guarantee of Lm500 each. Magistrate Scerri Herrera advised the parents present that should the conditions established to them be broken they would be sent to prison. Lawyers Neville Camilleri and Mark Sammut Cutajar appeared for the teenagers.
