Public transport returned to normal on Friday morning after bus owners decided to call off the indefinite strike ordered by the Public Transport Association (ATP) earlier this week.

In a letter sent to the Roads and Urban Development Ministry, the Association stated that it had accepted the government’s subsidy offer and also the route bus service reform. Discussions regarding the reform will continue between the government and the Association.

The government proposed that it will immediately hand over the arrears for 2005, amounting to Lm150,000, while it will pay a subsidy of Lm75,000 every month in 2006.

In its letter, the ATP also said that it had accepted the government’s proposal regarding the route groups, which was recommended by the Halcrow Report.

The school transport service has also resumed on Friday morning.
