Following the confirmation of the British government that Malta was one of the countries, where CIA flights carrying terror suspects landed, Foreign Affairs Ministry in Malta asked the US for information about these claims.

The Times reported that the permanent secretary at the Foreign Ministry called for a meeting with US Ambassador Molly Bordonaro and with the Chargè d'Affaires at the British High Commission.

Meanwhile, another local newspaper L-Orizzont revealed that between August 2001 and October 2005, 71 CIA flights were directed towards Europe, of these, eight flights landed in Malta. The newspaper reported that this information was disclosed by Austrian Green Party deputy Peter Pilz.

The Ministry is still investigating the case.
