The police have arrested two men in the early hours of Tuesday on suspicion of being involved in the illegal trafficking of persons between Malta and Siciliy.

The Sicilian police on Monday alerted their Maltese counterparts of the arrival of a boat in Malta allegedly involved in such trafficking. Intensive searches led to the arrest of a man in Cirkewwa and another man later on in Xemxija, caught red-handed handling a powerboat probably used in the illegal activity.

The boat has been confiscated and the two man held for questioning.

The duty magistrate ordered an inquiry.
