Three irregular immigrants are still on the run after a large group of immigrants managed to escape from detention at the Police Headquarters in Floriana. This occured early this afternoon at around 12:15CET.

The group of immigrants managed to escape when the gates were opened so that two immigrants could be taken out of the depot. A large number of immigrants charged at the gates and consequently fled towards Floriana and Valletta. The Police mobile squad with the help of the Irregular Immigration Section Police took immediate action and surrounded the area around Floriana, the area around Auberge de Castille and Valletta.

By 13:45CET, most of the fugitives were taken back to the Police Headquarters. However, three of the irregular immigrants are still on the run.

Later, at around 1430CET, a group of irregular immigrants at the detention centre at Ta' Kandja protested in the complex's yard. However the situation was brought under control immediately by the Police.
