Roof collapses, cars catch fire

Two men were injured when a roof of a garage in Santa Margerita street in Siggiewi collapsed on Saturday at around 0815 CET.

Police preliminary investigations revealed that the roof collapsed while the man were carrying out construction works on the roof of the garage.

The two men were taken to hospital were they were found to be suffering from some injuries. The men are not in danger of dying.

The police are investigating.

Meanwhile, Members of the Civil Protection Department were called to control two separate vehicle fires in two separate cases in Sliema and Qormi between Friday night and early on Saturday morning.

The first case happened in St Vincent street in Sliema at around 1030 CET when a parked Peugeot caught fire for some reason or another. The Peugeot as well as three other cars that were parked in the vicinity were badly damaged.

Meanwhile, on Saturday at around 0500 CET, the police were informed that another vehicle had caught fire in Triq l-20 ta’ Jannar in Qormi. The vehicle, a Fiat, was also extensively damaged.

Magistrate Joe Cassar was informed about both case and he appointed various experts to help him in the inquiry.

The police are still investigating.
