Attempted hold-up on two elderly persons

Last night at around 21:30CET, two persons armed with firearms attempted to hold up two elderly persons in their car in Canon Road, St Venera.

The man, 63 and his wife, 64 from Birzebbuga were not hurt in this incident. However, the elderly man is suffering from a state of shock.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two persons were driving from Hamrun to Birzebbuga in their vehicle, a Mazda 121 when another vehicle stopped in front of theirs. A man came out of the car and ordered the elderly man to give him money, which money was a considerable amount. The elderly man managed to reverse gis car and leave the spot. Consequently the two robbers fired in air to stop him and also tried to follow him with their own car.

The elderly man managed to arrive to the Paola Police Station and reported to the Police. The robbers fled from the location.

On duty Magistrate Dr A. Mizzi was informed of the case and appointed several experts to assist in the inquiry. Police investigations are underway.
