Flames continue to rule the streets with a residence being set alight in Zenqa Street, Naxxar, burning the front door and façade. The incident occurred at around 0330 CET on Wednesday.

The residence belongs to the Editor of MaltaToday, Saviour Balzan, also a member of the newly set up Journalists' Committee.

Police investigations resulted that the fire was started from items placed on the doorstep and set alight which spread to the front door.

The fire was controlled by the police and the owner of the house. No one was injured in the accident.

The Journalists' Committee condemns this attack on one of its members, which is a serious attack on freedom of expression.

"We express our solidarity with Saviour Balzan in the face of this cowardly act, which sadly also happens on World Press Freedom Day," said Journalists' Committee spokesman Massimo Farrugia. "We appeal to the authorities to bring to swift justice these criminals whose actions are a direct assault on the fundamental freedoms of our democratic society."

Duty Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna was informed about the case and appointed various experts to help with the inquiry.
