A cardio-respiratory shock prevented a 60-year-old Colombian from taking his flight to Malta with the expectation of trafficking 700 grams of cocaine, ANSA reported.
The man, who had left from Mexico City, fell ill when he reached Fiumicino airport in Rome and was given prompt assistance at the airport and later transported to hospital.
It resulted that the man had swallowed the cocaine in order to get to Malta 'safely'. His attempt however failed and nearly cost him his life.
The man is currently under arrest.
