More protests by illegal immigrants landed them in Court on Tuesday with 12 immigrants being arraigned after a dispute at the Ta’ Kandja Complex. The protests arose over the food which the immigrants were given.

The trouble escalated as the immigrants began breaking things within the Complex, which resulted in a lot of damage. There were no injuries during the dispute.

The 12 immigrants were charged with the following: forming part of a crowd to carry out a riot, causing more than Lm500 in damage to the detention centre and breaching public peace.

Defense counsel Dr. Anthony Cutajar requested bail for the accused.

Magistrate Joseph Cassar denied the request at this stage.
