At the end of the second day of on-stage rehearsals for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 final show, Malta's potential placement, calculated through an average of odds offered on betting websites fell from 22nd to 23rd position.

Betting site readaBet.com is offering 1/1 on bets that the final winner will be one of the semi-finalists. Sweden is the favourite semi-finalist with the bookmakers, even if Greece is currently attracting higher betting rates.

The overwhelming support for Finland's metal band Lordi continues. Taken together, the legitimate attention the Finnish entry is attracting in Athens by virtue of Lordi's unusual style and the anti-Eurovision campaign directed by VoteLordi.org, are raising the odds in their favour. On Tuesday afternoon Finland climbed to the fifth position on the same chart where Malta appears 23rd.

Fabrizio Faniello - second rehearsalTuesday's rehearsal sessions proceeded on the same lines as Monday's. At a press conference after the rehearsal, Fabrizio Faniello had an upbeat reply when asked if he would like to return to the Eurovision again after 2001 and 2006. "You never know, I might be back – maybe with my sister who’s a really good singer. Or maybe next year, if Eurovision is in Malta.”

The next round of rehearsals for Malta and any other entries not taking part in Thursday's semi-final will be on Friday.

While the stage is reserved for the semi-finalists on Wednesday, Fabrizio Faniello and many of the other finalists will spend the day sightseeing in Athens and around the Greek islands.
