Labour Party spokespersons Carmelo Abela and Dr Justyne Caruana have asked the Malta Song chairman and board to resign immediately following last Saturday’s ‘worst result ever’ in the history of Malta’s participation at the Eurovision Song Contest.

"It is evident that the work that was supposedly carried out by all the members on the board was fruitless even though thousands of Malta liri were spent," the MLP spokespersons said in a press release on Wednesday.

Carmelo Abela, MLP spokesperson for Education, Culture and Youths and Dr Justyne Caruana, appealed that in the light of the results achieved, the government should be more prudent.

Choices within the cultural field should be based on competencies and abilities and not on partisan politics, the press release stated, while saying that the majority of the Malta Song board members were appointed because of their contacts and friendships with the government or Minister Francis Zammit Dimech

Abela and Caruana however took the opportunity to wish Fabrizio Faniello the best for his career and encouraged him not to give up despite last Saturday’s result.
