People of all ages made a beeline for Luxol Car Park on Monday evening to listen to Roger Waters live, in a concert that lasted over two hours. The crowd of over 13,000 people went wild when the co-founder and principal songwriter of the archetypal progressive rock band Pink Floyd, showed up on stage. The engaging stage lighting and large-scale video projections, coupled up with spectacular pyrotechnics provided Roger Waters and his band with a perfect backdrop to Waters' highly-successful 'In The Flesh' as well as some of Pink Floyd's greatest pieces, including 'Dark Side Of The Moon' in its entirety.

Roger Waters and supporting his band mesmerized the crowd for well over two hours, with just a mere 10 minute after the first hour and fifteen minutes, followed by a brief pause later on where Waters' introduced the band members. In the first set, Waters’ touched upon a personal note with 'Leaving Beirut', recounting his how his heart was touched and his life forever changed by the kindness of a Lebanese family. The account of his experience was further enhanced by the screen projection recounting his youthful adventure in a comic strip form. The first set featuring a newly-shaped version 'In The Flesh' also included pieces from 'Animals,' 'Wish You Were Here,' and 'The Final Cut' which set off delirious fans screaming.

The second set was marked by his magnum opus, 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' in its entirety. The circular large-scale video projections picturing a coloured moon morphing into distinct images to compliment each track had many fans in awe, as did Waters' performance of every track.

The concert wound down with 'The Wall Part II' and 'Comfortably Numb' amid further dazzling pyrotechnics, screen projections, lighting techniques and much lighter-waving by enthusiastic fans.

The concert saw the attendance of a number of prominent figures inculding Prime Minister Dr. Lawrence Gonzi and his wife Mrs. Catherine Gonzi. Seated in the VIP area, the Prime Minister earned a few stares and giggles from VIP audience as Waters' sang the line "Should I trust the government?" while performing "Mother". The Prime Minister took it in good spirits and didn't fail to chuckle as well.

This is not the first time that Waters' genius shone down on a Maltese crowd. In 2004 'Ça Ira' was performed during the celebrations of Malta’s accession to the European Union.

Roger Waters hasn't been the only much-loved musician to pay Malta visit this year. In June Sting gave a 90 minute performance of some of his greatest hits, while Bob Geldof played in concert later during the month in aid of YMCA Malta.
