Suitable Viewing for the Children’s BBC is currently filming a series entitled ‘Roman Mysteries’ in Malta. The filming in Malta started on the 20th of September 2006 and is taking place at Ramla l-Ħamra and Calypso’s Cave in Gozo, Fort Ricasoli, Couvre Porte in Vittoriosa, Fort St. Angelo, Buskett, San Anton Gardens, Baħar ic-Cagħaq and Villa Bologna.
The production team said that what had to be a small filming experience in Malta, proved to be a positive surprise as when here, the have seen the potential of the country as doubling for various locations. They also thanked the Malta Film Commission for providing all the necessary assistance and be a ‘valuable ally’ in this production.
The production, with an expenditure of Lm 600,000 will be Malta’s largest audio-visual project this year. In the production, Malta is doubling as different parts of the Roman Empire including the city of Rome, Ostia and Pompei.
Visiting one of the shooting locations, Minister for Investment, Industry and Information Technology, Austin Gatt said that the film industry in Malta is witnessing a stable rate of growth of activity and the prospects the industry remain good.
Minister Gatt added that this year saw a 22% increase in filming days over the previous year, totalling to 141 filming days.
Austin Gatt announced that for the next 12 months we have around 160 days of shooting already firming up and the Film Commission is working with other producers to extend the days further.
