35 songs have been shortlisted into the second phase selection of the Malta Song for Europe 2007. An international jury panel selected the 35 out of 228 submissions. The publication of the first phase selection list on Sunday came as a surprise to participants and Eurovision fans alike, since the list was unveiled a day earlier than expected.
Eurovision fans are also surprised that a number of established local singers who have represented Malta in past editions of the Eurovision Song Contest did not make it through to the second phase selection to be held on the 9th of December.
The songs that made it into the second phase selection garnered more than 50% of the votes from the jury panel.

In the second phase selection, artists will perform their song or songs live in front of another international jury panel. This second panel will be different to the one involved in the second phase selection.
