14 Malta Song for Europe finalists announced

The 14 finalists for the Malta Song for Europe 2007 have been announced following a second pre-selection held at St Dorothy’s School, Zebbug on Saturday. 35 songs were first heard on demo recordings followed by a live interpretation in front of the judges.

The 14 finalist songs are:

Places to Go - composer, singer Tarcisio Barbara; author Vince Zammit

Night wish - singer AnnaBelle Debono, composer Philip Vella, author Gerald James Borg

My Love - singer Isabelle, composer Philip Vella, author Gerald James Borg

Whenever - singer Kevin Borg, composer Jason Paul Cassar, author Sunny Aquilina

L-Imħabba Għamja (Love is Blind) - singer Claudia Faniello, composers T.Fenech & A.Spiteri, author Claudia Faniello

All about a life - singer Pamela Bezzina, composer Paul Giordmania, author Fleur Balzan

Look at Me - sung by Julie Pomorski, author and composer Philip Vella

Forever Mine - singer William Mangion, composer Aldo Spiteri, authors T.Fenech & A.Spiteri

Little Islands in you Heart - written, composed and sung by Daniela Delicata

She gives me Wings - singer Klinsmann Coleiro, composer Mark Spiteri Lucas and author Rita Pace

Roller Coaster Ride - written, composed and sung by Rosman Pace

Starlight - singers Trilogy, composer Paul Abela, author Joe Julian Farrugia

As long as you know - written, composed and sung by Konrad Pule

Vertigo by Olivia Lewis, composer Philip Vella, author Gerald James Borg

OGAE Malta reported that Maltasong Board members Martin Gauci, Mike Spiteri, Anton Miceli, Robert Abela, Joe Dalmas, John Demanuele and Marbeck Spiteri were present at the venue. UKAM was also present through John Vassallo.

Before the live performances began, Mike Spiteri addressed the media and assured everyone that the panel of seven international judges are all professionals and come from a music-background. The judges applauded the performers at the end of their performances, OGAE Malta said.

The international jury panel was composed of Mro. Ramon Galarza (Portugal, composer); Alex Panaya (Greece, singer); Veronica Mortensel (Denmark, singer and composer); Claus Storgaard (Denmark, singer, musician and composer); Nicholas Graham (UK, producer, composer and writer), Deni Lewis (UK, composer, writer); Bruno Berberes (France, Head of Entertainment, French Television).

The draw for the running order of the semi-final will take place in January. The singers, composers, authors and the press will be invited to the draw.

Meanwhile, another two songs will be chosen through the Opportunity 2 Challenge on TV programme Showtime ma' Aceline.
