The Da Vinci Code has been the target of much hype with people claiming that it denounces the celibacy of Jesus Christ and is heretic in its views. With the book being made into a film, which is to be released later this month, the propaganda against Dan Brown’s novel has been intense.
In Malta, Vince Marshall wanted to stage a pilgrimage protest against the release of the film in local cinemas; however, he was advised by the Curia not to go ahead with his plans and was not given permission to use a statue during the pilgrimage as he had requested. Mr. Marshall was very upset by these orders and claimed that the devil had infiltrated the Curia.
In an exclusive comment to MaltaMedia News, Mr. Marshall said. "I am receiving letters of sympathy from people regarding what happened and signatures with ID Cards Number still coming in. So far we have 4250 with the new signatures. These will be burned like the others but we want that the COUNT keeps going UP."
Mr. Marshall has been applauded for his cause by people who also felt that the content of the novel and film go against the basic Catholic teachings, whilst others felt that those who did not like the book should just not go and watch the film.
Mr. Marshall stated, "The story is closed I don't think I have other comments to make. This has been going on since the 28th April the only comment I can say now is I obeyed The Curia as they are my superiors . But I end up with my slogan like I started ‘When I face almighty God at my final judgement, as we all will, I can say I did try my best. I did try my best to protest’."
Promotional posters and movie clips are already being shown in local cinemas and the book was a top-seller for many weeks after it was released.
