Following AEGEE-Europe bi-annual general meeting held just a few days ago in Poland’s capital city Warsaw, the local antenna AEGEE-Valletta, has won the bid to host the upcoming Spring General Network Meeting referred to as AGORA in April 2007.
The AGORA, as it is commonly known amongst AEGEE members, is AEGEE-Europe’s bi-annual network general meeting. Over 600 students meet for 4 days to discuss AEGEE Europe projects, strategy and action plans for the successive 6 months. The local antenna, apart from hosting and taking care of logistics, is also responsible for the social program and a 3 day post-event which will give all participants a good taste of Maltese history, culture and traditions.
Being founded in 1997, the bid comes right in time when AEGEE-Valletta will be celebrating its’ 10th year anniversary. Since then, AEGEE-Valletta has grown considerably on campus, earning great respect from the whole AEGEE network for its achievements. Just to mention a few, only in these last couple of months the antenna was voted as Second Best Antenna in the AEGEE-EUROPE Antenna Award 2005 and won the EGEE XX Award for Best Event in 2005. Moreover, AEGEE-Valletta is a leading and active student organisation on campus.
Mr. David Ciliberti, outgoing President of local antenna, AEGEE-Valletta, commented “This is great news for such a hardworking university student association. Hosting over 600 students for 4 days in Malta would be a great honour and definitely a first for a Maltese University student organisation. I am just proud of the team involved, which has worked long hours to make a successful bid for this mammoth project.”
Following the successful bid AEGEE-Valletta is also going to launch further initiatives with the aim of organising a remarkable and unforgettable AGORA for all participants. The first of which will be an official logo competition and the launch of a new website specifically dedicated to this event.
In the meantime, AEGEE-Valletta invites companies that have interest in promoting local products and services within Europe and beyond, to contact the organising committee, should they be interested in partnering with the event. Several marketing opportunities exist and so far, there has been a good response from leading companies. For further information, please contact the Marketing Coordinator, Mr. Marco Debono. Finally AEGEE-Valletta would like to congratulate two of its members, Mr. Alistair DeGaetano and Ms. Alexianne Galea for being elected President of AEGEE-Europe and President of the Juridical Commission for AEGEE-Europe respectively.
