Public consultation on MTA's tourism plan

On Thursday, the Minister for Tourism and Culture Francis Zammit Dimech launched a national and strategic plan for the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) for the years 2006-2009.

All those involved in the tourism sector were called on to participate in a public consultation concerning the plan which is set to adjourn MTA’s mission statement, outline corporate objectives to reflect today’s international and local tourism realities. The public consultation will last until the end of 2006.

One of the main aims of the strategic plan is reach the target of 1.5 million tourists per year. Other objectives inculde sustainable development of the management of incoming tousists to Malta and Gozo, sustaining current jobs in the sector while creating new ones, decreasing seasonality issues, pushing forward competitive advantages capitalsing Gozitan characteristics and improving accessibility towards and from Malta.

Speaking out the MTA plan the Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said that it identifies key focus areas while laying down clear guidelines. The Minister thanked Romwald Lungaro Mifsud for heading the MTA who will step down from the post of Executive Chairman of MTA on 31st August. Mr Sam Mifsud will replace him with effect from 1st September 2006.
