One of the main low cost airlines has confirmed that it is going to apply for the schemes and incentives announced by the Maltese Government for low cost airlines to operate from Malta during particular periods.

Another low cost airline will probably be putting forward its proposals. The applications for the Government schemes close on Friday 25th August 2006.

This was announced by Minister for Tourism and Culture Francis Zammit Dimech during a programme on Radio 101 broadcast on Sunday morning.

Minister Zammit Dimech also mentioned the Board of Consultation that was appointed to assist the Government on the tourism industry. This involves the contribution of high profile persons in the tourism industry. The board will be meeting on a regular basis. The Tourism Minister, the newly appointed Chairman and the Executive Head of the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) and permanent secretary within the Tourism Ministry amongst others will be participating. Amongst other issues related to tourism, the board will be discussing and assessing the response on low cost airlines.
