Following the Government’s call for proposals from low cost airlines to operate new and underserved routes to Malta two offers were received within the deadline which closed on Friday.
Ryanair offered to operate to Malta from Pisa, Dublin and Luton while Easyjet Airlines Co. Ltd. offered to operate from Luton and Mulhouse-Basel.
The offers were opened at 12:30CEST at the Ministry for Communication and Competitiveness where the bids had to be deposited.
The evaluation of the offers is expected to start on Monday based on the specifications and criteria expressed in the call.
The call had opened up the possibility for low cost airlines to operate to Malta from Luton, the Republic of Ireland, Pisa and Mulhouse-Basel.
The call for proposals launched on 25th July 2006 was published locally and also advertised in international airline magazines and websites.
