MaltaMedia's Highlight of the Year

2008: Business and Financial News

The adoption of the euro and effects of the international financial crisis on Malta were the main business headlines of 2008.

The smooth adoption of the Euro on the 1st January 2008 was recognised by the highest officials of the European Union and Malta was used an example for other countries that want to adopt the Euro.

The comfort of the Eurozone for Malta could be appreciated later on in the year when the international financial crisis deepened and EU countries not in the Eurozone where bearing the brunt of the crisis.

However Malta was not totally spared, though the country’s robust banking system was barely touched by happenings abroad.
