History of the Malta Labour Party - a brief introduction
Since its foundations in 1920, the Malta Labour Party has had a long and colourful history representing the interests of the workers and offering a sustained contribution to the development of leftist politics in the Maltese islands.
The Malta Labour Party has participated in most of the key historical events Malta went through in the 20th century including Independence and the cessation of Malta as a military base of the colonial British forces.
In the seventies, the party was also responsible for introducing a number of social benefits and new rights for workers in Malta.
In the early nineties, the party sought to reform itself and become more modern.
