Kavallieri WRFC vs Panthers WRFC
Previous clashes between these two teams have always shown Kavallieri to be the clear victor. However, the omens predicted something different for this game as the Panthers finally have a coach in the form of Mr. Samuel Ramage, whilst the Kavallieri were missing E. Farrugia who is suffering with an injured shoulder.
The Panthers found their pattern from the outset, and the influence of their new coach was readily discernible. It took the Kavallieri longer than usual to find their gear but eventually D. Borg scored their opening try, quickly succeeded by S. Vella with their second try. The Panthers fought hard again in the second half, although they could not stop R. Bondin scoring Kavallieri’s third try. The Kavallieri must have been disappointed with the result, but the Panther’s game has improved in leaps and bounds and we look forward to seeing more from them in the coming games.

Panthers WRFC vs Hibernians Sharks Saddles WRFC
C. Demanuele put the Sharks straight in to the lead with a try as she broke through the Panthers line. This was quickly followed by their second try scored by S. Debono, and came from good passing play. The Sharks’ B. Sultana was yellow carded before the half-time whistle for a bad hand-off of Panthers’ S. Rujuara, and this left Rujuara off the pitch for the rest of the match.
The second half saw the Sharks come out strong again with T. Sultana scoring two successive trys, one of which came out of a bad pass by the Panthers. The Panthers’ C. O’Brien was yellow carded before the final whistle for a high tackle. Both teams played a hard game, and the Panthers showed that their previous result against the Kavallieri was no fluke.

Hibernians Sharks Saddles WRFC vs Kavallieri WRFC
Sharks have previously held Kavallieri to a draw, and this time they came out all guns blazing. T. Sultana scored a try from the Sharks, putting them straight in to the lead. This was followed by a try from C. Demanuele putting the Sharks in an excellent position. The Kavallieri fought hard to come back and were handed a good opportunity when the Sharks’ T. Sultana was yellow carded. The Kavallieri pushed hard knowing that they were a player up and it paid off when their C. Abela was awarded a penalty try. The Sharks’ discipline began to falter as another yellow card was shown to their C. Demanuele for a high tackle.
The second half saw both teams fight fiercely and Kavallieri made a valiant effort to score. However, the Sharks drew their opponents in to their tight style of play and held their lead until the final whistle. With this victory the Sharks have proven that the Kavallieri are not invincible, although what effect this will have on Kavallieri morale is yet to be seen.

Stompers TGI Friday’s RFC vs Kavallieri Blue Label RFC
The Stompers were missing some key forwards in their line up, and the effect of this was immediately clear in their confidence levels. The Kavallieri appeared to be getting the best of the play in the opening stages of the game, but then had their R. Vella yellow carded.
Stompers’ hard work finally paid off and their M. Fountain found an opening that allowed him to score the first try of the game. The Kavallieri were not deterred and their R. Attard put points on the board by scoring a penalty. N. Hardie from the Stompers then left the field of play with an injury giving the Stompers more cause for concern.
Kavallieri kept the pressure on with good passing moves and excellent supporting play. This paid off when their M. Bonavia scored their first try, which was subsequently converted by R. Attard.
Hard tackling, leading to flared tempers, was to be a recurring theme of this match often resulting in penalty kicks. The Stompers seemed to be giving away territory with small mistakes and the first half ended with the Kavallieri having spent most of their time in their opponents half.
The opening moments of the second half did not bode well for Stompers as I. Borda scored a try for the Kavallieri, converted by R. Attard. The Stompers counterattacked but were blocked at every turn by fantastic defensive play from Kavallieri. Stompers turned up heat, but again their bite was often blunted by mistakes that gave away vital ground.
Kavallieri then took a secure lead as C. Vassallo blasted through Stompers defence to score a try, also converted by R. Attard who was kicking on form despite the wind. D. Borg then cemented Kavallieri’s victory scoring a try following another good drive down the field. This was also subsequently converted by R. Attard. The Stompers made a last effort before the final whistle and their P. Satariano scored the closing try of the game.
With this victory, Kavallieri have slowed Stomper’s climb up the table. A win at their next game will see them snapping at Stompers heels for the top of the table position and the excitement level in this hard fought league has certainly gone up a gear.
